Arrival and Dismissal

The safety of our students is our highest priority. Please help us ensure a smooth arrival and dismissal by following the procedures below.

 Arrival

  • Breakfast is available in the cafeteria beginning at 7:30 a.m.
  • School gates and the playground open at 7:45 a.m. Staff members are available to supervise students at that time.
  • Students may enter and leave campus through the gates on:
  • Michelson Street at the front of the school
  • Whitewood Avenue south of the parking lot
  • There is no after-school supervision. Please make sure students arrive on time and are picked up promptly at dismissal.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up by Car

The designated drop-off and pick-up zone is located on Michelson Street and is marked by orange traffic cones.

  • Do not park within the coned-off zone.
  • Pull forward as far as possible to allow other vehicles to enter the loading area.
  • Please have students wait until your vehicle reaches the end of the zone before getting in or out.
  • Students must cross the street only at designated crosswalks. Families may be ticketed for crossing outside of a crosswalk.
  • The school parking lot is reserved for staff and BUSD employees. For student safety, students may not be dropped off or picked up in the parking lot.

Crossing Guards

Crossing guards are available to assist students at Michelson Street and Clark Avenue. Students crossing Clark Avenue should always cross with the crossing guard. Please review pedestrian and traffic safety rules with your child.

Bicycles and Wheeled Devices

Students in grades 3–6 may ride bicycles to school after completing and returning a Bicycle Contract to the office.

  • Helmets are required.
  • Bicycles must be parked in the bike rack and locked.
  • Students must walk bicycles while on school grounds.
  • Skateboards, skates, scooters, and skate shoes are not permitted on campus.

Bus Transportation

The Intensive Learning Center does not provide daily bus transportation to or from school. Transportation may be provided for field trips; students must follow all bus safety rules and have a parent-signed permission slip.

Requests for Early Release

If your child needs to leave school early, please send a written note to the teacher that morning. Include the time of dismissal and the reason for the early release.

For student safety:

  • Students may be released only to an adult age 18 or older who is listed in Aeries as an emergency contact.
  • An approved adult must sign the student out in the school office before the student may leave campus.
  • Students will not be called out of class during the final 15 minutes of the school day, when teachers are reviewing homework and daily expectations.
