Dual Immersion
ILC's dual language immersion program educates Transitional Kindergarten through sixth grade students to become bilingual, biliterate, and cross-culturally competent. We implement a 90/10 (Spanish/English) language acquisition model, as follows:
- TK, Kindergarten, and First Grade: 90% Spanish, 10% English
- Second Grade: 80% Spanish, 20% English
- Third Grade: 70% Spanish, 30% English
- Fourth Grade: 60% Spanish, 40% English
- Fifth and Sixth Grades: 50% Spanish, 50% English
The Common Core State Standards are the foundation for all instruction in both languages. Students also build an appreciation for diverse cultures through standards-aligned instruction. Our dual language immersion team participates in differentiated professional development to continuously grow in their instructional practices, and to provide a seamless transition from one grade level to the next. As families join our dual language immersion program, it is our expectation students will commit to completing the program in elementary school, as well as middle and high school.
Our team works diligently to implement research-based strategies that prepare students to acquire the Seal of Biliteracy at their high school graduation, in preparation to live and work in a multi-cultural and global economy.
