Inspiring Young Musicians, Building Lifelong Confidence

At the Intensive Learning Center (ILC), music is an essential part of a well-rounded elementary education. Through the Bellflower Unified School District (BUSD) Elementary Music Program, every ILC student receives high-quality musical instruction designed to foster creative expression, teamwork, and stage confidence.

From early vocal rhythm in TK to performing on grand stages in 6th grade, our music program provides the foundation students need to transition smoothly into secondary choral and band programs in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Musical Pathways at ILC

Our music curriculum builds step-by-step as students grow:

  • TK – 4th Grade | Vocal Music: All TK–4th grade students participate in weekly vocal music classes. Lessons focus on rhythm, pitch, ear training, and joyful group singing.

  • 5th & 6th Grade | Band or Chorus: Every Wednesday, specialized BUSD music teachers visit ILC to lead high-quality instruction in either Instrumental Band or Chorus, allowing students to specialize in their area of interest.

Instrumental Band Program

Our 5th and 6th-grade band program introduces students to reading sheet music and mastering musical instruments through structured weekly lessons.

  • Elementary Band: Students learn foundational instrumental techniques, reading music, and playing in ensemble harmony. All band students showcase their growth during our Spring Concert at the Bristol Theater.

  • GATE Band (Advanced): Fifth and sixth-grade students who demonstrate advanced musical skills are invited to join the GATE Band. In addition to Wednesday lessons, GATE Band members receive an extra weekly lesson alongside fellow musicians at Washington Elementary.

GATE Band Performances Include:

  • Winter Concert at the Bristol Theater

  • Spring Concert at the Bristol Theater

  • End-of-Year Instrumental Festival at a local high school auditorium

Choral & Performing Arts Program

Chorus at ILC goes beyond standard singing lessons—it combines music, acting, and stagecraft to build public speaking skills and self-expression through entertaining musical plays with positive messages.

Audition & Specialty Performance Opportunities

Students in chorus can audition for special roles and specialized performing groups, including:

  • Speaking Parts: Students can try out for speaking and acting roles in both our Christmas Show and Spring Concert!

  • Honors Chorus: Performs annually at the prestigious District Choral Music Festival.

  • Advanced Chorus: Focuses on music production, vocal control, and advanced harmonies—serving as a direct pathway to middle school choral groups and Ensemble.

  • Ensemble, Elementary Singers & Dance Team: Elite auditioned groups that bring energy and movement to music! These groups represent ILC across the community, performing for local schools, district events, and premier venues like Disneyland!

Unique Stage Experiences

We believe real-life stage experiences build unforgettable memories and lifelong confidence. All band and chorus students participate in evening concerts held at the Bristol Theater, offering students a professional performance environment to shine in front of family and friends.
